Total alkalinity is where hot tub water care starts. It acts as a buffer for your pH — when alkalinity is low, pH swings wildly from one test to the next and nothing else you add works properly. FROG® TArget™ raises total alkalinity into the ideal 80–120 ppm range so the rest of your water balancing actually holds.

Why alkalinity comes first

If you adjust pH before alkalinity, you will be chasing it every week. Get total alkalinity into range first and pH becomes stable and predictable, your sanitizer works more efficiently, and your heater, plumbing and spa surfaces are protected from the corrosion that low-alkalinity water causes.

What you get

  • Raises alkalinity only. Formulated to lift total alkalinity without dragging your pH up with it.
  • FROG TruDose Cap™. Seals the bottle and measures the dose, with a chart printed on the bottle in large, easy-to-read type. No hunting for a measuring cup.
  • Stops pH swings. Buffered water holds its balance between tests instead of drifting.
  • Helps your sanitizer work. Balanced water lets chlorine, bromine or mineral systems do their job efficiently.
  • Protects your equipment. Low alkalinity is corrosive to heaters, jets and surfaces.
  • Dissolves fast. Granular formula, no clumping or residue.

How to use it

  1. Test your water weekly with FROG® Test Strips (or FROG @ease® Test Strips if you run an @ease system) and check the total alkalinity reading.
  2. If alkalinity is below range, use the chart on the bottle to find the right dose for your spa’s gallon capacity and measure it into the TruDose Cap.
  3. Add it to the water with the jets running, then retest and adjust if needed.

When you will need it

After a fresh fill, after a partial water change, or any time your test strip shows alkalinity below 80 ppm. New water almost always needs an alkalinity adjustment before anything else.

Common questions

Should I fix alkalinity or pH first?
Alkalinity, always. Once it sits between 80 and 120 ppm, adjust pH to 7.2–7.6, then check total hardness.

Will this raise my pH too?
It is designed to target alkalinity specifically. Some slight pH movement is normal with any bicarbonate product — check pH after your alkalinity is settled and adjust from there.

Does it work with my sanitizer?
Yes. It is meant to be used alongside FROG @ease®, FROG Serene® and other spa sanitizing systems.
